 little dancing cylons

things girls do that I love:

  • offer their friends sips of their coffee drinks without being asked
  • scratch each others back
  • say things like “smell this lotion I bought this weekend”
  • compliment each other’s eyebrows
  • that thing when they agree with you and their eyes get really wide and they nod their head solemnly
  • throw out each others gum wrappers or chip bags when they get up

“Having waited my entire life to get an award for something, anything…I now get awards all the time for being mentally ill. It’s better than being bad at being insane, right? How tragic would it be to be runner-up for Bipolar Woman of the Year?”

LGBTQ* History You Should Know

(and probably never heard of)

According to historian Allan Berube, “Jeanne Bonnet grew up in San Francisco as a tomboy and in the 1870’s, in her early twenties, was arrested dozens of times for wearing male attire. She visited local brothels as a male customer, and eventually organized French prostitutes in San Francisco into an all-woman gang whose members swore off prostitution, had nothing to do with men and supported themselves by shoplifting. She traveled with a special friend, Blanche Buneau, whom the newspapers described as ‘strangely and powerfully attached’ to Jeanne. Her success at separating prostitutes from their pimps led to her murder in 1876.”

Every once in a while my head-canon on a character ends up not meshing with actual canon.

Reading the NJO, there’s a scene - in Star by Star maybe? - where Mara goes to fix Luke breakfast. Ben is super tiny yet, it’s just after his birth, and she completely burns everything. It’s stated she’s not a good cook, essentially, and my response to that is bull-shit.

I understand the tendency to say ‘assassin, trained to do deadly stuff, can’t do domestic arts’, but that is such a cliché. I also feel like it’s totally not Mara because Mara Jade is practical, and let’s face it - cooking and the ability to make simple meals is nothing if not practical. Mara Jade may not be ready to go under cover as a 5 star chef, but I think she could make eggs and bacon without burning them. I’d even go so far as to say it may have been part of her training.

So in my head canon, Mara Jade can cook meals, maybe even slightly more complicated ones. Certainly she won’t be burning eggs on a regular basis.

#queue #star wars #skywalkers #mara jade #yeah i dislike this trope too #because practical reasons aside #i hate han being the best cook in this family #just no #it's either luke or mara #probably luke because he's the only one with a parent who'd cook on a regular basis #an orphan a princess and an assassin are either going to cook for survival or for appearances or for their job #not for pleasure

Ania Solo - nicolecieux / Photography - zhobot

I was going through my drafts and realized I hadn’t posted these pictures from, erm, last Katsucon. Anyway, here’s my cosplay of The Grungiest Djo: Ania of House Solo. (Lightsaber belongs to great-grandma, obviously.)

Specter Two - a Hera Syndulla Triptych - Part I

Title: Specter Two

Summary: Hera survives the events of Rebels, but the the bulk of her crew isn’t nearly as fortunate. A triptych following Hera Syndulla through the major battles of the Rebel Alliance.

Notes: Parts two and three that cover the Battle of Hoth and Battle of Endor are still to be written. Stay tuned.

This story aims to blend Rebels, the OT, and some of my favorite elements of the Expanded Universe.
